General description
Syntaxin-17 (UniProt P56962) is encoded by the STX17 gene (Gene ID 55014) in human. Syntaxin-17 belongs to the Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor (NSF) attachment protein receptor (SNARE) family of proteins that mediate membrane fusion events. Syntaxin-17 functions as the autophagosomal Qa-SNARE required for autophagosome-lysosome fusion and it mediates the fusion process by binding to its partner SNAREs, synaptosomal-associated protein 29 (SNAP29; Qbc-SNARE), and vesicle-associated membrane protein 8 (VAMP8; R-SNARE). In addition, the homotypic fusion and protein sorting (HOPS) complex is reported to interact with Syntaxin-17 and promotes Syntaxin-17-dependent autophagosome-lysosome fusion.
